My Little Pony Friends Forever #37

Rarity is excited to work on Sapphire Shores’ next big concert! What should be a dream job could turn into a nightmare when Rarity discovers that she’ll need to work closely with a pony with a checkered past… Trixie!

For being the next to the last issue of the Friends Forever run, it wasn’t really that great.  The art wasn’t the worst that the series has offered, but it certainly wasn’t inspired either.  Not to mention the plot doesn’t make a lot of sense.  Sure, Trixie did some pretty crappy things, and I’m not sure where this takes place in relation To Where And Back Again, but we do know that by this point Starlight Glimmer practically lives with Twilight.  For Rarity to just completely dismiss Trixie out of hand doesn’t go with previous plot developments.  Not to mention Rarity saying she didn’t know to make the dress shorter and less flammable because she hadn’t listened to Trixie.  Trixie had said numerous times that she was working on fireworks for the show and Rarity even flippantly remarked on it.  Hopefully, the final one will be able to make up for this train wreck.

Black Panther World of Wakanda #4

“DAWN OF THE MIDNIGHT ANGELS” CONTINUES! With their king shamed and their queen dead, Ayo and Aneka take justice into their own hands….Learn the secrets behind the events that led into the 2016 sales smash BLACK PANTHER #1!

I’m going to be sad to see these ladies go, but I suppose at some point we will run into the beginning of the 2016 series, which is likely going to be very soon.  My biggest issue with this series is the fact that we can never seem to have the lesbian couples be happy in comics.  Just let the wlw be happy for once, that’s all I ask.  Also, clearly we know that Aneka and Ayo don’t quite die yet since they’re still kicking in Black Panther.

Poe Dameron #11

Things are heating up for Poe Dameron and super-spymaster C-3PO! The First Order is on their tail…and Terex’s evil cronies as well. Not to mention… Who’s feeding information to the First Order in the first place?

My hopes and dreams for Kare surviving this series have just circled down the toilet.  I would much rather have her alive and evil than dead, but there doesn’t seem to be much of another explanation for her absence from The Force Awakens.  Unless she was pregnant.  Let’s go back to the pregnant theory.  Unfortunately, Poe is still being a poor excuse for a Han Solo wannabe.

Also, I sense an FN-2187 cameo sometime in the near future.  Then again, I also believed Kare was the traitor in a blind hope that she was still alive.

Harley Quinn (2016 -) #14

“RED MEAT”! Red Tool lives up to his name and Poison Ivy drops by as Harley investigates what is happening to New York’s disappearing homeless population!

Is this the official plot line for the entire arc, or what’s going on here?  I’ve had no Red Tool, no Poison Ivy, and the homeless are just starting to disappear.  In fact, my issue is all about a giant blue naked man coming out of the underworld who sets off on a quest to overtake Earth.  Like, is that the plot for the next story arc, because I’m pretty sure this one is called Nether Regions.  At least that bit with the Joker is finished.

God Country #2

As Emmett Quinlan attempts to rebuild his family and his home after the devastating tornado that broke them, something otherworldly screams through the sky under a banner of WAR. The GODS have come to Texas—and they do not intend to leave it empty handed.

I love this series and am intrigued to know what else this magical sword can do for Emmett.  And what it’s going to ask of him in return for all it’s magical powers.

“A FALLEN HOUSE” Maggie leads the survivors from the Hilltop to Alexandria…to see it overrun with the dead. ALSO, HOLY CRAP! THERE ARE TWO ISSUES OF THE WALKING DEAD THIS MONTH!

Rick and Neagan make the world’s worst power couple.  The panel with Andrea on the rearing horse gives me life.  It’s also intriguing to think about where the series could go should Rick come to an untimely demise.  Right now, it looks like they might be setting up for Carl to take over.  But I have a few, better suggestions for them: Andrea, Michonne, Jesus, Maggie.  And then in the aftermath Andrea and Maggie can hook up and become the world’s best power couple to make up for all the weird Neagan Rick stuff going on now.

08/17/2016 Comic Picks of the Week

Pick of the Week

384589._SX640_QL80_TTD_DC Rebirth Harley Quinn #2

“Die Laughing” part two! As the plague of zombies on Coney Island continues to spread, Harley must rescue one of her own from the undead hordes…and try to uncover the cause of this corpse-y catastrophe!

Two weeks ago, Harley Quinn Rebirth #1 came out the door swinging with a teenaged runaway alien induced zombie apocalypse, and this week does not disappoint. If anything, I may love this issue even more than the last one.

Reasons to pick this one up:  Harley gets an undead horse at one point when she throws herself into the zombie horde.  Someone special makes a grand entrance with a weed whacker at the end.   Harley tried to take a pee break during the middle of a zombie fight, and honestly, I have never related to a character more in my entire life.

Reasons to avoid: None?  You don’t like Harley Quinn?  You’re turned off by some light zombie action?

Runner-up: Star Wars Poe Dameron #5

Black Squadron’s been locked away in a Republic prison! But they’re not locked in there with us, they’re locked in with…Terrex?! Can Poe and co. get the info they need and get free?

The Poe Dameron series was the reason I searched out my local comic shop in the first place and is what got this whole thing started.  I used to go once a month for Poe Dameron.  Now I’m there every week, and I’ve already earned my first reward on my loyalty card.

This month’s issue featured more droids, more Jessika Pava, and the information that Poe can charm the pants off a Hutt.  I don’t even want to know how Jess came to that conclusion.  Also, Black Squadron is still wearing the infiltration gear.  10/10 approve.

Reasons to pick up:  You love Poe Dameron as much if not more than I do.  BB-8 is amazing.  More Jessika Pava, which is great if you’re working on some fanfic.  Snap still has this thing with murderbots.

Reasons to avoid: The line about Poe being able to charm the pants off a Hutt.  Kare’s demise was not only foreshadowed, she was singled out for a grisly demise through Terrex’s threats.  I knew her chances of survival were dismal to begin with given that she was not in The Force Awakens, but I thought she would at least last ’til closer to the end of the series.  If we’re foreshadowing her death five volumes in, that’s not good.

Honorable Mention: N/A
